Though the cost of admission is always going up at Walt Disney World, it is not just ticket prices that are perpetually on the rise at the resort. In truth, Disney is constantly adjusting and modifying its prices on pretty much everything, from food to souvenirs and of course hotel room rates and everything in between. And while you might not notice when your $5.95 drink is rounded up to $5.99 or a formerly $11.49 pin suddenly costs $11.99, some more noticeable pricing changes happened this week that take effect immediately and could have an impact on your next trip. And while not all of them are increases (annual passholders are actually getting a number of new discounts), the first one will actually affect a lot of guests…
1. Memory Maker goes up in price
Earlier this week Disney unexpectedly increased the price for its Memory Maker PhotoPass add-on by a moderate amount. Previously the price for the standard Memory Maker product was $169, but guests were able to purchase this unlimited photo download service at a discount if they bought it three days in advance or more for $149.
However, under the new pricing scheme (which is unfortunately already in effect) the cost for this add on has increased to $199 for the standard Memory Maker add-on. Guests who purchase in advance will be still be able to get a discount, but will now have to pay $169, which was of course the full price just a week ago.
Though this revelation may come with a bit of sticker shock, the silver lining is that Memory Maker still remains a free “perk” for annual passholders, which is yet another reason why visitors to Walt Disney World may want to consider buying an annual pass during their next visit to the resort, even if they don’t live in Florida.
2. DisneyQuest gets a last minute discount before closing forever
It’s hard to believe, but July 2nd, which is the last operational day for DisneyQuest before it shuts down forever, is fast approaching. And while this may be bittersweet for many, the silver lining here is that Walt Disney World is offering ticket discounts to its annual passholders as well as Florida residents who are wanting to visit this indoor theme park one more time before it transforms into the NBA Experience.
Under this new deal, which is valid from now until this location’s final day of operation, Florida residents as well as annual passholders can purchase up to five tickets to DisneyQuest for $33.75 ($29.25 for ages 3-9), which is 25 percent off the regular ticket price.
3. Annual passholders get a summer discount on Express Transportation
Earlier this year Walt Disney World introduced a new Express Transportation option, which allows guests to take direct bus service between theme parks from designated points inside the parks (bypassing additional security checks as well). Though this service was popular during its initial try-out, it looks like interest may have waned a little bit (perhaps due to a price hike), as Disney is offering a new deal this summer that will allow annual passholders to take full advantage of this new offering.
This week Disney introduced the Express Transportation Summer Pass, which is available exclusively to Passholders for $59, and allows purchasers to use the Express Transportation service daily from the date of purchase through to August 10, 2017.
Regular pricing for Express Transportation is $19 for a single day ticket, or $29 for a 7 day multi-day ticket, which means annual passholders who are planning to spend more than two weeks at the parks this summer (and were already thinking about the Express Transportation option) may want to consider this deal. Of course, if you’ll be avoiding the massive crowds this summer, you might want to hold off and see if Disney offers a similar deal for the fall.
4. Night of Joy gets premium upcharge options
We reported several weeks ago that guests attending the annual Night of Joy event in 2017 could choose to buy a concert only, or a concert plus theme park ticket this year, which is a useful option for guests who don’t want to spend a lot of time at the theme parks, or already have admission (like annual passholders). However, it was revealed this week that Disney has also introduced a $20 premium upcharge for guests who to sit closer to the stage at Champion Stadium in a special reserved section. Here’s the rest of the price breakdown:
- Single-night concert only tickets : $45 plus tax in advance
- Two-night concert only tickets: $69 plus tax in advance
- Add-on a single day Walt Disney World theme park ticket for $62 plus tax
Though there are some price hikes hitting Walt Disney World this week, at least it has been tempered by some new discounts as well. Will any of these price changes affect your next Walt Disney World vacation? Let us know in the comments below!
