Azamara Club Cruises is teaming up with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as part of its commitment to help protect and conserve the ocean. Together, WWF aims at helping Azamara Club Cruises reduce its environmental footprint, further ocean conservation, help marine life thrive and engage the global community to raise awareness about the importance of marine and environmental conservation.
Azamara Club Cruises, a branch of Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd., will be hosting an onboard World Wildlife Fund Guest Speaker Series as well as selling plush panda’s onboard with 100 percent of the net proceeds going to support WWF’s global oceans conservation network.
The series kicked off in June with WWF’s Dr. Nikhil Advani, a senior Climate Change Adaptation Expert who joined the Azamara Journeyand spoke with guests about the impact of climate change. The Series will include experts covering a wide range of topics and providing guests with insight into nature’s value to people, business, governments and biodiversity as well as wildlife and marine conservation, food waste and sustainable agriculture.
Other speakers of the Series include Nilanga Jayasinghe, program officer, Wildlife Conservation; Cassie O’Connor, manager, Foundation Relations; Pete Pearson, director of Food Waste; Dr. Sybille Klenzendorf, senior biologist, Wildlife Conservation; Michael Osmond, senior program officer; and Nicky Sundt, consultant on Energy and Climate Change Issues.
Speakers involved with the series have a variety of focuses and interests, including Asian species conservation, wildlife conflict mitigation, Arctic species conservations, fishery improvement projects, bycatch reduction efforts, regenerative agriculture, sustainability, corporate/social responsibilities and more.
Larry Pimentel, CEO of Azamara Club Cruises said, “We created a World Wildlife Fund Speaker Series as part of Royal Caribbean LTD’s broad partnership because our team and our guests seek out opportunities to learn through experience. Hosting these experts onboard to conduct educational sessions on our ships about ocean conservation while at sea allows our team and guests to be deeper connected to and engaged in the cause.”
