Hyatt has brought its Millennial-friendly lifestyle hotel brand Hyatt Centric to Hawaii with the opening of the new Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach, part of the redevelopment of the former Waikiki World Trade Center.

The off-beach Hyatt Centric will join the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa and Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach in this iconic Honolulu destination on the island of Oahu, with a grand opening slated for January 19. “We are proud to play a role in the renaissance of Kuhio Avenue,” says hotel general manager Charles Young. “Our hotel is a true launch pad for guests to explore and discover the best of Waikiki’s urban setting.”

The hotel will have 230 sleek contemporary guest rooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of the Pacific and Diamond Head, Beekind bath products, and Bluetooth enabled electronics. A lounge pool, fire pits, and a 24/7 fitness center are among amenities geared toward a youthful, active clientele. Chef Yoshi Ohata will oversee the hotel bar/restaurant, The Lanai, serving creative Pacific fusion cuisine.

The Waikiki Trade Center is being redeveloped as part of the rejuvenation of the International Market Place, which includes new stores like Nordstrom Rack. Kuhio Avenue has long lingered in the shadow of bustling Kalakaua Avenue, which is closer to the ocean The Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach is a conversion of a former office building by Swinerton Builders, local architecture firm Group 70, and California design firm DESIGN360unlimited. The Hawaii property is the 12th Hyatt Centric location, joining properties in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Key West, and Montevideo, Uruguay.

Rates start at $229; commissions are paid to travel agents for bookings, and special incentives may be available during the rollout of the new property.
