With all the excitement building regarding Disney’s Hollywood Studios remake, Toy Story Land, and Star Wars Land, Theme Park Tourist and Amanda Kondolojy give us there thoughts and what information they’ve gleamed on the upcoming resort construction at Walt Disney World Resort…..
Walt Disney World has announced some truly impressive expansion plans for its theme parks in recent months, which include over a dozen new attractions across its four theme parks being constructed over the next five years. However, even though we’re excited to see what the next half decade holds for Walt Disney World’s theme parks, there’s another part of Disney’s aggressive expansion that you may have missed in all of the excitement about attractions: new hotels.
Earlier this year Disney announced two new hotels coming to Walt Disney World resort: Disney Riviera Resort (which is being built next to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort) and an unnamed hotel that could change everything that we thought we knew about Disney hotels…
A new bar will be set for immersion
In an effort to extend that Star Wars experience beyond Star Wars: Galactic Edge (opening in 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios) Disney has announced plans for a new Star Wars themed hotel that will allow fans to experience this amazing universe in a whole new way that is unlike any other Disney hotel. Guests who stay in this hotel will take part in an immersive experience designed from the ground up to be a living adventure that allows guests to immerse themselves in an entirely new form of Disney storytelling.
Inside the hotel, guests will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around them. Guests will be able to live and breathe their own story with themed dining, activities and more that will touch every single minute of their day, culminating in a unique journey for every person who visits. Everything from the decor to the furniture will be a part of the theme, with nothing in this hotel recalling our world. Even the windows will be themed, with views of the various planets, starships and more from the world of Star Wars visible from guests’ rooms.
And speaking of guest rooms, according to officially released renderings, rooms will have both children’s bunk beds and adult-sized beds in the style of Star Wars bunkers, with each room fitting up to 4 people. The size looks similar to deluxe Disney properties, which means guests who stay in these rooms should have plenty of space to stretch out while waiting for the next part of their Star Wars adventure to begin.
A hotel inside a theme park
Interestingly, When Disney announced this new hotel project, they declined to release any information about exactly where this new hotel will be built, which might seem a little bit strange for what should be such a high-profile project. However, we think that Disney will be doing something they haven’t actually done at Walt Disney World in its 45 year history: building a hotel inside a theme park.
Though other Disney resorts around the world, including Disneyland Resort and Shanghai Disneyland have built hotels on the edges of their theme parks, Walt Disney World has never actually done this (Cinderella Castle suite notwithstanding), which would make this a first for Disney’s most-attended resort.
As for the location, most insiders believe that Disney is planning on building this unique hotel on the border of the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to maximize the immersion guests will feel when they step outside of this hotel and right into the world of Star Wars. Then again, WDWMagic reports that a lot of land is being cleared for additional construction near Epcot, which could also be a potential site for this new hotel.
But when will guests be able to check in? And how much will it cost?
Construction on this new hotel experience has not begun yet, and while it was suggested that Disney was targeting a 2019 opening date to coincide with the opening of Star Wars: Galactic Edge, that seems like wishful thinking at this point, and if this hotel is to be built near Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it seems like it will likely be constructed as part of a “phase 2” of sorts for this land, and will likely open in 2020, perhaps in celebration of this land’s first anniversary.
As for cost, expect this to be one of the most, if not the most, expensive hotel on Walt Disney World property. Not only to the dimensions of the room suggest that this will be a deluxe-level resort, but Disney recently released a survey that seemed to indicate that Disney is considering a cost of around $1,000 per guest for a 2-night stay.
While there is a lot we don’t know about this new hotel, Disney has confirmed that it is in the works, even though it has yet ot have a name or an official location! What are your predictions for this new hotel? And perhaps most importantly, what do you think it will cost?
